As a Czech startup ourselves, we’re always keeping an eye out for what our fellow startups are doing and love to hear about their success. The Czech Republic is becoming a great place to start new and exciting businesses with some innovative ideas out there.
We’ve chosen 5 of our favourite Czech startups, based on the great ideas they’ve come up with, brilliant execution and entrepreneurial spirit.
Slevomat is the Czech version of similar voucher websites such as Groupon and Wowcher where users can benefit from selected discounts on a host of items for varying amounts of times. Common available deals include savings on clothes, weekend breaks, spa days and more.
Slevomat was launched in 2011 by founder Tomáš Čupr and now operates in Slovakia, Hungary, Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.
Go Out is an entertainment guide currently operating in Prague, Brno, Pilsen and Ostrava. Users can find a comprehensive list of upcoming events, including live music, theatre, clubbing and art exhibitions.
The site offers you the chance to register and create a personalised event calendar as well as receiving updates about your favourite artists and upcoming shows.
Twisto is a new way of paying, similar to PayPal, but with a key difference. With Twisto, customers can purchase goods up to 20000CZK without paying anything for two weeks. It is essentially a two week, interest free loan. The advantage of using Twisto is, for example, when buying clothes, you can return the items within the two week period without having to worry about sorting out a refund to your account.
Twisto is currently available for use on a number of Czech sites, such as DameJidlo.cz, Rohlik.cz and Ordr.cz.
Restu aims to simplify reserving a table at restaurants in the Czech Republic. Founded only last year, Restu available all across the country, users can book a table at selected restaurants without needing to pick up the phone. Those who go that bit further, such as reserve a table for a large party of people or leave a review about an establishment, earn credits from the site, which can be redeemed for cash.
Restu also serves as a review site which provides recommendations on new places to eat for those looking to discover new restaurants.
Brno based startup SkyPicker helps air passengers find the best prices on tickets across the world. The cheapest prices are served up using SkyPicker’s unique algorithm which scans all the existing data and suggests alternative routes to find the best deal.
SkyPicker was founded in 2012, funded by angel investor Jiri Hlavenka and have since gone on to acquire WhichAirline.com. They work out of an 1920’s villa just outside of Brno.
