With summer over and the nights drawing in, what better time to swap your lilo (the inflatable water bed, not the Linux boot loader) for your laptop and learn some new stuff and meet some new people at an event or conference this Autumn?
Luckily, the Czech Republic has a thriving developer and tech community and there are lots of interesting events to choose from. Here are the highlights.
Ostravské Pyvo – Jak začít s programováním
An introduction to programing for absolute beginners, the only requirement in an interest in learning about programming. Ostravské Pyvo have meet ups every month to so be sure to check out their website for future events.
8.10 - 9.10, Prague
LinuxDays is a free, open source conference held over two days in Prague. LinuxDays is one of the largest open source conferences in the Czech Republic and replaced the previous ‘LinuxExpo’ four years ago. Check out the website to sign up for free.
20.10 - 21.19, Prague
GeeCON is a Polish conference focused on Java and Java Virtual Machine based technologies, attracting attendees from all over the world. The two day ticket is 5000CZK+VAT if you sign up before the 14th October and the conference with be held at CineStar in Prague 9. More information on the website.
28.10 - 30.10, Brno
Don’t worry we haven’t forgotten about Brno! At the end of October, PyCon welcomes Python enthusiasts for a three day conference. There will be two days of talks and one day of workshops to put into practice what you’ve learnt. Tickets range from 30EUR to 120EUR depending on your status, the cheapest rate is for students.

And finally, although it’s not technically in Autumn, we couldn’t leave off DevConf, a free, 3 day open source conference also held in Brno. DevConf is open to developers, architects, IT consultants and anyone else with an interest in open source trends and the latest digital technologies. More information available on the website.
